FAQs

TENNIS LADDER WEBSITE:  https://www.sportsmatchsoftware.com/cgi-bin/m1?OID=709

How it's different:

The Wilmington ILM tennis ladder's online system allows you to easily challenge players, initiate and accept open proposals, key in your own match scores, view match history, and manage your profile.  Spend less time organizing matches and more time playing!

Lost Password To Wilmington ILM Ladder Site:
If you have forgotten your username and password, let us know, we can get your username for you. Then you will click on "forgot your password?" in order for the system to email you the password.

Too Many Tennis Ladder Emails?
You can turn off emails by logging into the LADDER SITE and check box at bottom next to "No Proposal Emails"

This is an activity generating ladder -- you get points for playing:

You get points for challenging other players on the ladder
You get points for winning
You get points for winning games (even if you lose the match)

Scoring (Adult Ladder) -- Automatically Calculated

Winner (Max : 50 pts)
Bonus Points = 10 (if you were ranked above); 15 (if you were ranked same); 20 (if you were ranked below)
Game Points = Difference in games (e.g., 6-4, 1-6, 1-0) would get 3 pts.  Whereas 6-4, 6-4 would get you 4 points.  **If you were ranked lower by two places or more game points are multiplied by difference in rank (max of 10) divided by 2**
Challenge Points = 2 (if you challenged or proposed the match)

Loser (Max 10 Points):
Game Points = Points for the games won
Challenge Points = 2 (if you challenged or proposed the match)

Creating a Proposal (Open Challenge)
Wilmington ILM Tennis Ladder

USING THE LADDER SOFTWARE

1)  Select the Ladder you are participating in
2)  Select "Proposals" link at the top of the page
3)  Select "Propose Match" at the top of the page
4)  Choose the Date and Time (including am/pm).  Specify where you would like to play (or you can specify that you are flexible).

Challenging a Specific Player
1)  Select the Ladder you are participating in
2)  Click the "Challenge" link next to the name of the person you would like to challenge
**This creates an email sent to that player, if they accept your challenge you will receive an email and you can work out a time and place**

Entering Match Results
1)  Select the Ladder you are participating in
2)  Click the "Matches" link
3)  Use the dropdown box to choose "All Weeks"
4)  Use the dropdown box to choose your name
5)  You should see the match listed - click on the link with the players and enter the scores
6)  IF YOU DON'T SEE YOUR MATCH LISTED (e.g., you arranged the match outside of the system) -- you can choose "Add Match" the challenger is the person who suggested playing, enter scores as normal.

Challenge Date
The Challenge date is the initial point of contact and is used for point calculation.

Location of Match
You and your opponent will decide where (e.g., Empie Park, Landfall, etc) and when the match will be played. If you decide to play at your own club, please let your opponent know in advance of any guest fees that may apply. If you don’t inform your opponent of a guest fee, please don’t expect them to pay it upon arrival. Bring phone numbers with you in case there is a problem.

Match Play
You will play the best 2 out of 3 sets with a 10-point tiebreak (i.e., first to 10 points by 2) in lieu of the 3rd set (unless both players agree to play a full 3rd set PRIOR to start of play). When entering a 3rd set match tiebreak score, enter it as 1-0, NOT the actual point score in the tiebreaker. Both players bring new balls to the match. One can is opened, and the loser takes home the used balls, the winner takes the unopened can.

Rescheduling a Match/Match Interruptions
A match may need to be rescheduled in case of our crazy Wilmington weather. When rescheduling, the challenger is still considered the challenger until the match is played. Any match interrupted by rain or other external issue (injuries should retire from the match) should be played from the point of interruption as soon as you can. Make sure to write down where you left off (and who was serving) so there are no disputes.

MATCHES WITH A FORECASTED HEAT INDEX OF GREATER THAN 95 DEGREES CAN BE RESCHEDULED AT THE REQUEST OF EITHER PLAYER.

Forfeits
It is a forfeit if you are more than 15 minutes late for your match. The player giving the forfeit receives no credit for the tennis match. The player receiving the forfeit is considered to have won the match (6-0, 6-0) and receives all credit. The Default box on the Match Scores screen is checked in this case. If your schedule changes please give your opponent ample time (1-2 days) if possible to get another match—everyone’s time is valuable. If you need to cancel your match, please reschedule it right away. And when canceling, please CALL your opponent instead of sending an email—some players do not check email that often. Any last minute cancellation (the day of the scheduled match), your opponent has the right to take the forfeit. If you are a “no show”, it is an automatic forfeit.

Retiring
If you get injured during a match and cannot complete the match, your opponent will complete the score by “winning” the rest of the games. Do not use the incomplete score and do not check the “default box”.

Proposals
If you accept a proposal that has a time and location, you must show up at that location whether it is confirmed by your opponent or not. Likewise, if you put out a proposal with a time and location, and it is accepted, you must show up for the match or it is a forfeit. If you accept a proposal without a location specified, you must confirm with your opponent. If you change your mind about playing a match, make sure you delete that proposal (so no one accepts it), and if it has been accepted, make sure to inform your opponent.

Email addresses
Email addresses are used for Ladder play ONLY — no personal non-ladder purposes are allowed.  Players will be removed, without refund, for non-compliance.

Rules and Regulations
Please follow The Code from the USTA. All USTA rules apply, but these matches are set up for FUN (yes FUN!!) so use fair player discretion in all matches. Players can decide which matches to accept so please keep good sportsmanship in mind or you may find that folks choose not to play with you! Please see USTA Rules for the Code.
